1. Moving companies suggest using small book cartons of about 1.5cubic feet for packing books. Books should be laid flat with alternating binders and have fold sheets of packing paper separating different layers of books. Small books and magazines should be placed upright to tighten the carton. The packed box should then be sealed using quality packing tape and labeled ‘books’.
2. Moving boxes of size between 3-4.5 cubic feet are best for packing small framed pictures while dish packs are best for packing glassware. Depending on your stemware and collectibles, you can use moving cartons of size 1.5, 3 of 6 cubic ft. to pack them.
3. The bottom of all these boxes carrying fragile items should be covered with wadded packing paper to cushion the load. Each picture, dish, stemware and collectible should be individually wrapped and packed upright. Tighten the moving box by topping off the carton with packing paper. Seal, label and mark the moving box ‘fragile’.
4. Moving services suggest using glass pack or mirror cartons for packing large framed pictures. The size of the moving box depends on the size of the pictures you use. Use cardboard inserts to protect the picture edges, seal and label this box ‘fragile’ too.
5. For linens, moving companies recommend cartons of size 3 or 4.5 cubic ft. The box is used for packing sheets, towels and pillows. You could also pack fragile lamps in between the linen. However movers advise packing lamp shades individually in a different box. After packing, seal and label the carton ‘Top load only’.
6. Wardrobe cartons with 24 inches hanging bars are recommended for packing hanging clothes. Fill its bottom with pillows, dust covers, comforters and shoes. Instead of filling the box with empty suitcases, fill them with neckties, pillows, jeans, etc.
